As you read in the last update, we are now down to just two of us, Leah & myself.  My last week was not as hectic, but still busy.  I taught the children at church on Sunday, the story of the Rich Young Man from Mark 10:17-31. How important it was to put God first in our lives above everything else.  We went through the 10 commandments and saw how the first four were how we as man should relate to God, and the last six on how we should relate to others. Leah gave the lesson at the Youth service about the disciples arguing about who amongst them would be the greatest in God’s Kingdom – Jesus calls us to serve – take your focus off yourself and stop striving for greatness but choose to be a servant to those around you!  It tied in well with putting God first in your life.
Monday was our Sabbath day with Kim.  We ran some errands and then went to watch a movie – The Jungle Book, in 3D – Kim’s choice! 😀
The rest of the week was filled with teaching the FBI (Future Bright International) students English, and Vietnamese class taught by Kim’s apprentice, Men. And our two translators helped out with that as well.  Leah sat in on that class, as she is really wanting to learn the Vietnamese language.
Leah and I also prepared a presentation board for Kim, that she will be bringing with her when she comes home and speaks at various churches regarding her work.
We also spent some time with the kids in small groups, taking them to our hotel pool for swims.  It was fun to swim with 2 – 4 of them at a time.  Girls twice, and boys twice.  It allowed us some one on one time without them having to compete for our attention from other kids.
On my last day Kim held a barbecue dinner with the FBI students and any students who had shown up for Vietnamese class.  That was very special.  It again gave me more time to just love on the kids and have fun with them.  Though I did get a lot of “No Canada, Teacher”.  Which was so hard.  How do you explain to these kids that you have another life and family that wanted you home.  Got to have my last homemade mango salad, Kim’s special recipe, from Mangoes fresh off her tree. 🙂
One thing I love about these mission trips is the close communion I have with God, without the distractions of the Western World. I would highly recommend you go on at least one trip in your life time.  It is a life-changing experience.
Blessings, Sandra
