Today started with soccer at 7am! Although there were smaller numbers in attendance because of the New Year festivities the night before, it was still a fun time on the field. After getting all hot and sweaty, we retreated to the semi-cool breeze of the overhead fans by the hotel pool for a time of worship and prayer. Our group devotion time was led by Kathie. We gathered together for a time of corporate worship, spending time with the Lord and surrendering ourselves to Him.
Before devotion time, much to our disappointment, Kim advised that the baptism that was on our schedule for tomorrow would need to be canceled because there was not enough water in the lake. After some discussion, we determined that a pool would work just fine! So baptism is definitely on!! Pray for these five youth as they prepare for baptism and as they continue to grow in statute and God’s Word.
After worship we had a few hours of free time, which the team used to catch up with lesson preparations, take a much needed nap or touch base with their families, friends and faithful prayer partners. We enjoyed a yummy lunch together before heading to Kim’s for the day’s lessons.
English and computer classes follow and then in no time the courtyard begins to buzz with excitement as the children arrive for VBS. Kathie led that VBS and presented the parable of the sower (Luke 8:1-15) challenging the children to not just hear God’s word but to live it out. We even had time for a Minute to Win-it game led by Daniel! The kids received a delicious dinner of chicken fried rice before heading home!
It was Boy’s Night Out tonight! We took 10 of the boys and piled into Kim’s truck for a night out at Hoc Sep, a local amusement park.. it seemed like most of Siem Reap had the same idea and there was a huge traffic jam leading up to the entrance so rather than sit in a hot truck we decided to just jump out and walk the rest of the way! The boys loved the bumper cars, the roller coaster and a ride called USO which is a combination of a swinging boat ride and a spinning ride. Some boys preferred to ride on motorized mopeds. We topped off the night with time on the trampoline! Some of the girls showed up to crash the party so they joined us in our tuk tuks back to the hotel. A trail of four tuk tuks filled with the Summit Short Term Mission Team and a ton of tired Vietnamese kids convoyed through the busy streets of Siem Reap leaving a trail of dust behind us as we ended our day together.
Blessings from the Team, Kathie
