Today we were up early and went out to visit three of the Angkor Wat temples. Looking at the architectural aspect of it all was beautiful. The intricate carvings, the workmanship of the buildings themselves. Put together with none of the mechanical equipment we have today. Big heavy stones and carvings…
But when you stop and realize it was all built to worship idols it becomes almost heartbreaking. The temples were owned by both Buddhist and Hindu at different periods of times.
In the temple at Ta Prohm there was so much rubble, where, through time, walls had collapsed. And on that rubble, tress have grown and the roots growing right over it all destroying much of it. We were reminded that man can build these beautiful temples, but all God needs is a tiny seed to fall and grow up to destroy all their work.
After a swim, rest, and coffee with a woman from the Phsa Leu Church, we went to Kim’s so Daniel could teach math to the students from the FBI (Future Bright International) School. He helped them with understanding triangles/angles, the different degrees that angles have, the different shapes, i.e. isosceles, pentagon, etc. At first they didn’t quite get it, but it was so wonderful to see their eyes when understanding dawned. And then there was no stopping them. They wanted more and more problems to solve.
After that lesson, we took 7 of the younger girls out to dinner. We went to the tourist area called “Pub Street”. What a joy it is to take the kids out for meals in smaller groups. To be able to feed them, and to take them places they would normally not go. We found these young ones so appreciative. We ended the evening at a small arcade where each girl got two tokens to use on whatever they wanted. What fun they had.
Blessings from the team, Sandra
